I feel like My plots don't go anywhere. It's like one idea going on for 20 minutes. I feel like I should let my imagination do the work but I thought I would see what other people thought on how to make your plots go somewhere.

Try starting with a good idea.

Develop it before you start writing the script.

Plus- if it's not going anywhere it's not really a plot now is it???

There are alrady topics based around this area if you look back at old posts here, including opinions, ideas and recommended sites and books...

Perhaps you could try 'What If'
You already have a starting point.
I imagine this means a few characters, and a situation.
Why not throw a 'What If' into the mix. What If fireguards really were made out of chocolate?
How would that affect the characters/story?
What if Bob turned out to be a telephone support operator?
What if Dereks house fell down in Scene 3?
What if Liz cant get a job?
What if everyone ran around naked?
What if the car wouldnt start this morning?
What if you had turned a different corner?
What if an asteroid hit the earth at THIS particular point.

Perhaps if its not going anywhere thats because you arent interested enough in it? Or anyof the characters? So why should anyone else be?
Get a good premise and some good characters, and a good story may just write itself.

I'm currently re-trying an Amelie style movie, with all of my (early) childhood memories and tales my Dad and family have told me crammed into one movie about one central character. First time I tried it, it really was a car crash of ideas, but a month has passed and I've had time to think.

It's going to be really cool, and I've reworked it so half of it can take place in Paris.

It's about a nobody twenty-something (who, if all goes well will be played by me) and his Indian friend (a cornershop owner played by my actor friend Gavin) who go on a trip to Paris to find the French acctress Audrey Tautou (no joke) but it's real surreal in a Monty Python/League Of Gentleman kinda' way...

Not saying it's going to be as funny as those guys but still...

Yes. Python was cool.
Did you hear about how they wanted to turn the sound down in the studio, so that watchers would turn their sets all the way up, and then put the audio on full blast at the end, being self explanitory now.
The station denied the request though.
